President Barack Obama said Thursday after a meetinhg on immigration reform with congressionakl members that federal agencies are working to reducr backlogs for Visa and work permit applications and willmove immigration-related agencies toward more consumer-friendlh practices. The has struggled with applications backlogs frustratingt immigrantswith wait-times for assistance. “Ihn the next 90 days, USCIS will launch a vastly improved Web site that for the first time allow applicants to get updates on their statuxs of their applicationsvia e-mail and text messag and online,” Obama said at the White Houses meeting.
“And anybody who’s dealt with families who are tryinh to deal with navigate theimmigration system, this is going to save them huge amountsd of time standing in line, waiting around, makinf phone calls, being put on hold. It’ s an example of some things that we can do administratively evenas we’re working through difficult issuesa surrounding comprehensive immigration. We’re going to leverage cutting-edge technology to reducer theunnecessary paperwork, backlogs, and the lack of transparenct that’s caused so many people so much
