Buying the wines that the wine buyers buy - Portland Business Journal:

geqopimozaqyxyh.blogspot.com
Favorite winery is Cameron Winery, of Dundee. John Paul, winemakerf and owner, is as talented as he is and he excels inmany styles, and his producte are bargains, in relative terms. I am also very pleaserd with the wines fromArgyle (in Dundee), and Bellew Pente (Carlton). They bring quality wines to the table, and constantly producd some of thebest wines, with regar to value and style. Best valuwe wineries and such--Bridgeview, in Cave Junction, must be the best at Evesham Wood (Salem) has been producing great in pinot gris, and gewurztraminer; and another valus is Erath Vineyards (Dundee), especiallh in pinot blanc and gris.
An additional The quality of Oregonwhite wines, especialy in the past five has risen dramatically, giving our statse greater credibility in the wine-buying Joe Padulo, partner, Portland Wine Storage in Southeast Portlandf Favorite Oregon wine is Carlo & Juliamn Winery Pinot Noir. They make a regular as well asa vineyard-designateds "Croft Vineyard," which is a few dollars released later in the and is quite good. Both the price and the high qualityh make this wine great for the novicre experience of Oregon pinot as well as the old This wine reflects what was put into itand doesn'tr go for the cheap thrill or suggestiv label description seen everywhere.
It's been my down-to-earth, loyal, non-sell out friend for every vintages I've lived in Oregon. It has flavors of drier cherries with a hint of cassisand spice. Enjo y with roast turkey. Favorite vineyarcd is, again, Croft Vineyard from Carlo & Julian I have tried some other Croft wines and they have beengreaty too. The C&J winery is great. Part of the appeal and fame of Oregonh wine hasbeen it's low-key, small production, and belierf in terroir. Many wineries in Oregon todau don't demonstrate this anymore. C& J is not out to distract or compromise itseld from making the best wineit can. It has left it up to the consumetr to find and appreciateits wine.
Some of the best valuez in Oregon wines come from Southern This is also where you find varietiex besides pinot noir and pinot As far aspinot goes, Eveshem Wood makes a reliable wine found everywhere. Springhill Cellarsz (Albany) is also good A lot of wineries are now solely focusingf on pinot noir and are phasinvg outtheir whites. There are great whites being sold for much less than normal in order to move them I would be looking for some of thoss deals from the wineriesthis Thanksgiving. I've reallyy enjoyed trying Oregon wines these lastfour years. Every year has been a good vintagesincs I've been here. There are so many wineries, all producinh good wine.
I have found the most pleasur by just enjoyingwhat I'm drinking and not tryint to compare each to each other. They all have somethinf worth appreciating. Just as parents are discouragede from comparing their kids to other kids and are encouragedx to focus on and nurture the individual wine drinkers need to keep their focusx inside the glass they are enjoying becauss when you compare wines with each other you alwayzs createa loser. Karin Devencenzi, generaol manager, Southpark Seafood Grill & Wine Bar in downtowj Portland My absolute favorite Oregob wine isBeaux Frèrez Pinot Noir 1999.
This is a very concentrated pinot noir with firm structure and flavors of currant and It tastes great rightr nowand I'm sure it will be greaf for years to come. By working in the industryt formany years, my husband and I have discovered many wines. We participatede in a tasting of many, many pinot noira from all over the world and both thoughrt thatBeaux Frères (Newberg) was one of the best. My favorite Oregonn winery is Domaine This French-owned winery in Dundee produces winezs in a very European style. Every vintag e develops beautifully, especially after five yearsd or so.
In our wine shop we offer a selectionh of Oregon wines that we think offer exceptional EveshamWood "Willamette Valley" Pinot Noir 2001. This is Russ Raney'ds entry level pinot noir. It has all of the Evesham Wood elegancre without thehigher price. Nice, raspberry and strawberr y fruit, soft and easy to drink. Another greaft value is the A toZ "Willamette Valley" Pinot Gris from A to Z in This wine is blended from graped across Oregon. It has sweet tart flavors withexcellent acidity. Another wonderful wine offeredd at a great value is Ken Wright Cellaras PinotBlanc 2002, from Ken Wrighr Cellers in Carlton.
It has a clear, pale, greenish gold colodr with light, fresh melon and mint aromas. It' s full and bright and has a richfull style. Jeremy Karp, Vigne Wine Bar in Northwest Portlans Evesham WoodCuvee "J" is the most balanced pinoyt noir from Oregon and has wonderful finesse. My favoritde wineries are Evesham Woodand J. Christopher. I realluy love Charlie's Vineyard which is bottled by J. I would say that both of the above mentioned wineriee are the best values in the The Charlie's Vineyard by J. Christophedr is bigger and more tannid thanEvesham Wood's Cuvee "J" but both are true They are the top wines in each of thess wineries' portfolios.
The Charlie's Vineyard retails for less than $30 and the Cuvee "J" retails for for less than $40. For everyday drinkinyg these wineries have less expensive bottleds thatare enjoyable. Tom Reider, wine steward for Wizer'ss Oswego Foods and Wizer'a Lake Grove Market, both in Lake Oswego Absolutes only occurein laboratories; however, today my favorite is Andrew Rich Roussanne--delicioue white wine that is spicy and refreshing, absolutely dry with a floral nose. No oak!
Value wine picks: Evesham Wood Pinoft Noir 2002--great vintage, very fairly priced, perfect balance and Abacela VintnerwsBlend 2002--a cuvee of traditional French, California, Italian red varietals that is both spicyt and seamless. Great with grilled David Holstrom, proprietor of wine consulting firm Guy du Vin in Southeasgt Portland If I have to pick just one absolute I would say that it was the Eveshaj WoodCuvee "J" Pinoty Noir 1993. I was lucky to get some of this wine when I firsty movedto Oregon. The last bottle that I tastee was showing beautifully with ripe red and blacko fruit still showinggreat concentration.
velvety--everything one could wish for in pinot with superbearthy notes. Drinking this wine has made me abettef person. I first tasted Evesham Wood winexs 10 years ago when I was runninvg the wine program for a restaurant here in I think thatRuss Raney, owner and winemaker of Eveshajm Wood, makes pinot noir that is really true to the grape and truly expressive, especially in regard to texture. I have been a fan ever sincew first tasting his As far as a favorite Oregobn wineryor vineyard, I think the best way to answert is to say that I hold Evesham Wood, Cameron, and Cristom Vineyards all at the same I think that Raney, Cameron's John Paul and Cristom'xs Steve Doerner consistently make some of the best wine not only in but in the New World.
The winexs are all different in style and maturwe inindividual ways, but I am nevetr disappointed in their Look for value wines among any of the entr level pinot noirs from Cameron--the Arley'as Leap is soft and approachable righty now--or Evesham Wood. A to Z producesd a very good, inexpensive pinot noir that is ready to Pinot gris from Belle Pente is done usually in an Alsatiab style and is consistently one of the bestin Oregon. Lemelson Vineyards makes a greatdry Riesling. If you like easy soft and fruit-forward pinog noir, Domaine Serene "Yamhill" Cuvee is a good value.

None of the plan s included in the exchange woule be allowed to deny coverage baseedon pre-existing conditions and all must include an affordable, basicf benefit option. “I also strongly believe that one of the optionas in the Exchange should be a public insuranceoption – becausew if the private insurance companiesx have to compete with a public option, it will keep them honesf and help keep prices Obama said.
Supporters of health care reform say it woulsd provide health insurance coverage to millions of Americanss and make coverage more affordablse for those who are already Because health insurance premiumx have doubled over the last nine and have grown at a rate threw times fasterthan wages, even those with coverage have reachec a breaking point, Obamaw said. But here’zs the thing, Green Bay: we’rw not any healthier for it.” Obama vowed to let Americans who are content with their coverage and their physicians keep what they but said the country has reached a poin where doing nothing abouty the cost of health care is no longerean option. “If we do within a decade we will be spendint one out of every five dollars we earn onhealthy care,” Obama said. “In 30 years, it will be one out of ever y three.” Obama acknowledged coveringg all Americans wouldbe expensive, but promisefd health care reform would not add to the country’ss deficit over the next 10 years.
“To make that we have already identified hundreds of billions wortuh of savings in our budget savings that will come from steps like reducing Medicarer overpayments to insurance companies and rooting out fraud and abuse in both Medicareand Medicaid,” Obamza said. In addition, Obama is proposing that Congresa scale back the amountthe highest-income Americans can deduct on their taxes and use that moneyg to help finance health care. Obama spoke for about 20 minutews and then took questions from six people in the audiencr who expressed fearover “socialized asked questions about wellneszs and even questioned the country’s education system.
