U of L professor tapped for new chief medical officer position - Business First of Louisville:

Pfeifer will serve as a liaison between clinical and executive staf in the newlycreatee role, said Jim Taylor, presidenrt and CEO of UMC. “Several candidates expressed interest inthe position, and six were interviewed, Taylor said. Pfeifer “has held a numbe r of important positions in the hospital and in themedicao school,” Taylor said. “He’s well-versed with the leadership peopleand processes.
” Pfeifer, who has a medicapl degree from U of L, has been a professodr at the school for more than 20 He has served in administrative roles for the past 15 From 1998 to Pfeifer served as chief of staff for U of L Hospitaol and was vice dean of clinical affairs during the same period. He served as interikm dean of the university’ s School of Medicine in 2005 and before Dr. Edward Halperinn was hired forthat post. As an Pfeifer continues to practicde medicine at U of L Taylor said the chief medical officeer role also was created to aid in advancingt quality andstrategic matters.
Pfeifer’s priorities include determining additionak services that are needed inthe community, as well as expandiny existing programs. Pfeifer pointed to the UMC’s cance and stroke programs as examples of initiativeas that have helped to expane the awareness of U of LHealthh Care. University officials are in the process of evaluating what future expansionj opportunitiesmight include, he U of L Hospital being a place for physicians to practice.
This includezs having appropriate equipment and supporg staff for physicians on he said, as well as being able to get patientse admitted in a timely “Physicians feed hospitals,” Pfeifer “So we have to make it a welcoming environmenf and an efficient environment.”
